Social Sketching: Columns & Coffee at The Adams Building (Cancelled)

Considering the current situation dealing with Covid-19, we have decided to cancel the upcoming Social Sketching event. Thank you for your understanding and we hope to see you at our events in the near future!

Columns & Coffee is a monthly social sketching excursion led by the L’Enfants, the emerging architects branch of the ICAA-WMA. This March, we will be visiting the Adams Building of the Library of Congress. Planned and constructed during the height of the Great Depression, the Adams Building is notably more restrained than its predecessor, the Jefferson Building. Whereas the Jefferson Building is detailed in a grand Beaux-Arts style, local architects Pierson & Wilson employed a more subdued yet detailed Art Deco for the Adams Building exterior and the interiors. Much of the building’s character comes from its art – including an Ezra Winter mural and several Lee Lawrie bronzes – that celebrate literature and literary heroes. We will meet at the Starbucks at the corner of 3rd & Pennsylvania SE at 10:00am. We will be sketching for about 2.5-3 hours, but people are welcome to come and go as they please.
