Compass Realty – 1313 14th Street, NW, 4th Floor, Washington, DC 20005

Join the ICAA for a presentation on the recent book ‘Gideon Shryock, his life and architecture 1802-1880’  with our hosts Compass Realty on 14th street.

Gideon Shryock, Kentucky’s first formally trained architect, brought the international style of the Greek Revival to Kentucky, and in the process imparted a template of architectural and professional dignity for others to follow. In his talk to the ICAA, “Gideon Shryock: Tracing the Greek Revival in Kentucky,” Gill draws from his award-winning book, Gideon Shryock: His Life and Architecture, 1802-1880, to show how Shryock influenced and was influenced by his great peers of the era as he helped evolve the American Greek Revival into a mature style.

A former resident of Louisville, Scott Gill practices real estate in Austin Texas, where he recently joined the board of the Texas Chapter of the ICAA. He is the award-winning co-author of three books on Kentucky architecture and has taught architectural history at the University of Texas at Austin.  Gill holds a PhD in architectural history from UT—Austin, an MBA from MIT, a Master of Architecture from Rice, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Stanford. He has given numerous talks, including to the ICAA in New York and in Austin.

Refreshments will be served and copies of the book available will be available for purchase by Politics and Prose.
