Join the ICAA for a guided tour of Congressional Cemetery with historian Jeff Trinca on Saturday, October 15^th, at 10:00AM.

A retired Washington attorney and longtime resident of Capitol Hill, Jeff has been known without provocation to share his love of history, art, architecture, and storytelling with any unsuspecting passersby of the District of Columbia and its suburbs.  While Jeff has been an official docent at Congressional Cemetery for just a decade, he has been a devoted student of its residents and their relationship with the capital city for over 30 years.  Since retirement, he has obtained certification as an interpretive guide and now scratches out a humble living sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with the public.

In his tour, Builders, Architects, and Land Swindlers, Jeff brings alive the residents of Congressional Cemetery instrumental in designing and building one of the premier capitals of the world out of worn-out tobacco plantations.  Benjamin Latrobe, William Thornton, George Hadfield, and Robert Mills, along with builders like George Blagden all played their part in establishing the new capital.  Equally interesting were the men more intent on making a fast buck like James Greenleaf; whose failed land speculation schemes sent the young Nation into an economic panic, brought the development of the city to an abrupt – if temporary – halt, and bankrupt many of the founding families lying nearby his current resting place.
