Bunny Mellon’s contributions to garden history are known around the world. While she is perhaps most famous for her work on the gardens at the White House, it was at her Little Oak Spring home in Upperville, Virginia where Mrs. Mellon gardened as a form of self expression.

Join the Oak Spring Garden Foundation and Oehme, van Sweden & Associates for an illustrated lecture that explores the Little Oak Spring Landscape Report, a document that guides the property’s landscape renewal and provides a framework to preserve its history, beauty, and culture.

The Oak Spring Garden Foundation is a living legacy of Rachel Lambert “Bunny” Mellon—renowned designer, horticulturist, and philanthropist. Bunny Mellon’s contributions to garden history are known around the world. While she is perhaps most famous for her work on the gardens at the White House, it was at her Little Oak Spring home in Upperville, Virginia, where Mrs. Mellon gardened as a form of self-expression.

Oak Spring is delighted to welcome the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art for a guided tour of this extraordinary place. The visit will include a look at the beautifully renovated Broodmare Barn, the formal garden designed by Mrs. Mellon, and a peek inside her formal residence, where she lived and welcomed many distinguished guests. The tour will also include time in the Oak Spring Gallery, where a special exhibition exploring Mrs. Mellon’s relationship with President John F. Kennedy will be on view. Guests will also have the opportunity to browse the Oak Spring Gift Shop, featuring a curated selection of books and gifts.

Space is limited to 25!

Must provide your own transportation.

Join the ICAA for a day of exploring a number of private homes in the Classical Private Eastern Shore. Our first stop will be a Gatehouse and winemakers cottage recently completed by Wiedemann architects and Winchester construction to complement an old estate.  Following lunch the group will tour the historic property ‘Wheatlands’ built in 1750 and meticulously renovated by Winchester Construction.  A tour of historic Ellenborough is next renovated by BarnesVanze architects followed by the ‘Ships Point’ estate designed by Wiedemann Architects.

Space is limited and first come first serve.

Addresses will be released to ticket holders the week prior to the event. Please provide your own transportation.

Join the ICAA as we welcome Designer Beth Webb discussing her new book, Embracing Beauty, in conversation with friends Barry Dixon, Designer, and Ankie Barnes, Architect.  The group will discuss the book along with their work and activities together with the DLN.  Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

 

Beth Webb is an internationally acclaimed interior designer and the founder of Beth Webb Interiors, a celebrated Atlanta-based firm known for its timeless, sophisticated, and richly textured spaces. With over two decades of experience, Beth has crafted homes that embody warmth, serenity, and a refined sense of  style creating personal sanctuaries for clients across the U.S. and beyond.
Barry Dixon is known for a distinct aesthetic that blends Western styles with global influences from a childhood spent abroad in India, Pakistan, Korea, New Caledonia and South Africa. With projects spanning the world, Dixon imagines interiors that infuse artifacts and antiques with present-day motifs – all preserving the history and personality of the home’s owners and their treasures.
Anthony “Ankie” Barnes, FAIA, LEED AP is a native of Johannesburg, South Africa. Educated at the University of Witwatersrand and Yale University, Ankie traveled extensively and gained international professional experience before moving to the United States in 1981. His training in traditional and modern architecture and his experience at Hartman Cox Architects in the 1980s, aligned with fellow employee Steve Vanze’s outlook with whom he co-founded BarnesVanze Architects.  Particular emphasis in the classical and traditional realm later became the philosophical design basis of BVA’s well-known residential work.
