Please join the ICAA and L’Enfants for a day of measured drawing at the DC Court of Appeals. We will have a brief introduction on the lineage and techniques of measured drawing. We will also have examples from this building and will talk about possible areas to study and draw. Instruction and guidance can be provided for those new and wanting to learn the art of measured drawing. All are welcome!
The DC Court of Appeals building is a beautiful example of Greek Revival architecture in Washington, D.C. It was designed by Elliott Woods, who also served as the Sixth Architect of the Capitol from 1902-1923.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS
- Sketchbook; hardbound (+/-) 8” x 10”, stitched binding so the book can open flat, (Strongly recommended; Moleskine Art Collection A4 Sketchbook, 8.25” x 11.75”).
- 12” triangular architects scale, with 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/4”, 1 1/2” and 3” scales.
- Tape Measures; (recommended, 25’ Stanley Powerlock, and Lufkin 6’ folding wood rule)
- Mechanical pencil with 0.5 HB lead. (Alvin Draft/Matic or similar)
- Wooden drawing pencils, H, HB and 2B leads. (Recommended; Towbow Mono)
- Pencil Sharpener; (Recommended), Blackwing Longpoint or similar)
- Eraser; (Recommended Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick or Alvin Vinyl Eraser or similar)
- Drawing Stool, (optional)
- Laser Measure (optional)
