In this course on the theory and application of Classical Proportions, students will learn the historical methods of applying proportion, including geometric construction, arithmetic intervals, and harmonic ratios. Students will analyze and synthesize the orders and elements of classical architecture and how they relate to an overall architectural composition. The course instructors will discuss the relationship of these proportional systems to the philosophy of beauty, comparing various modern notions of beauty and proportion with those of the past.

This course will combine the theoretical with the practical. Students will be invited to implement the materials learned in the lecture by drawing. Students are advised to bring their own drawing boards and materials
