Window Design for Beauty, Weather Resiliency and Performance

February 26, 2026
6pm-8pm

The Georgetown Club
1530 Wisconsin Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20007

Join the ICAA and your peers for a lecture on designing high-performance windows and doors with the right classical proportion and symmetry for custom, traditional buildings require region specific solutions informed by real-world storm performance. Across the U.S., code requirements for wind and impact resistance vary by region, while increasingly severe weather events continue to challenge designers, manufacturers, and insurers.

Since Hurricane Andrew in 1992, significant advancements have been made in window and door products, detailing, and regulations to improve life safety, reduce property damage, and enhance building performance. This course examines proven strategies to mitigate water and wind infiltration through case studies and tested architectural details. Emphasis is placed on evaluating window and door performance within the context of the entire building—including envelope detailing and energy-efficiency considerations—while maintaining design intent and code compliance.

Cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

The History and Evolution of Fibrous Plaster in Architecture

The History and Evolution of Fibrous Plaster in Architecture
with Adrian Taylor of Hyde Park Mouldings

March 10, 2026

6:00PM to 8:00PM
The Georgetown Club
1530 Wisconsin Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20007

Join the ICAA and Adrian Taylor, Principal of Hyde Park Mouldings, for a lecture on the history, development, and contemporary use of fibrous plaster ornament in architecture.

The use of gypsum plaster for architectural decoration predates recorded history and reached a high level of refinement during the European Renaissance. Its popularity declined in the mid-20th century with changing style preferences, the rise of gypsum wallboard and the general pivot away from traditional “wet” plastering techniques. Today, fibrous plaster has re-emerged as a valuable material for interior architecture—versatile, customizable, and resilient in a range of environments.
This course is ideal for those interested in architectural heritage, interior detailing, and the enduring relevance of plaster ornamentation.
This lecture has been submitted for 1 AIA LU/Elective.
