Northwest, Washington, DC
Please join WMA ICAA for a tour of two private homes in Washington, DC.
First, Donald Lococo of Donald Lococo Architects, and George Fritz of Horizon Builders will lead guests on a tour of a 2015 John Russell Pope Award winner. Classical in both plan and elevation, this home is comprised of entirely custom Indiana limestone details. The elegant façade, simple but well-proportioned with classical elements, extends itself into both the entry portico and main foyer consistent proportions and materiality. This introduction allows the flanking rooms to be perceived as separate pavilions, each equipped with eight equal-proportioned French doors symmetrical of the main axis.
After enjoying lunch at a to-be-determined location, guests will continue on to a five part regency styled stucco home, a collaboration between Jones & Boer Architects, Banks Development, and Arentz Landscape Architects. Modeled after early 18th century English precedents by such renowned architects as Sir John Nash, this new 13, 500 sf house presents itself as a careful study in symmetry, balance and proportion. Finely detailed, load bearing Indiana limestone porches and accent details give the home a stately charm and presence on the street. The interior spaces feature hand carved stone mantels, custom millwork trim, cabinetry and details ensuring the vocabulary of the exterior flows through to the interior to create a seamless elegant experience that is timeless in style. This portion of the tour will be led by Michael Banks of Banks Development, Wouter Boer of Jones & Boer Architects, and Richard Arentz of Arentz Landscape Architects.
